Bangalore – The healthcare destinationIndia is fast emerging as one of the most sought after medical destinations in Asia for offshore patients.
People from across the globe have been visiting India for rejuvenation packages from across the globe. Chennai and Vellore were once metaphors for the best in medicine, but catered mostly to Indians from other states. Later, Kerala created a brand for itself through Ayurveda and people from other countries trickled in. Now, people from foreign countries visit India, not just for rejuvenation, but for holistic medical treatment.
South India, especially Bangalore, is emerging as the healthcare destination of choice. Hospitals here receive patients from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Tanzania, Mauritius, Nepal, Pakistan, Dubai and other Middle East and SAARC countries. There is an increasing trend of patients from North America and European countries as well.
Bangalore’s reputation as the Silicon Valley of the country may soon be overshadowed by this new development as the next International medical tourism destination. The ministry of tourism, Government of Karnataka has referred to Bangalore as the ‘Garden of Life’, in its promotional campaign.
Bangalore city life, be it in terms of restaurants, world cuisines, pubs, shopping malls, accessibility, business services and entertainment events among others, is comparable to any cosmopolitan city anywhere in the world. Conducive climate and affordable levels of cost of living, with good healthcare infrastructure and peaceful law and order situation, the city has it all.
The highlight of South India’s medical facilities and skills are in the areas of Cardiology, Cancer, Minimal Invasive Surgery, Joint Replacement, Kidney, Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, Dental treatment and Pediatrics.
State-of-the-art facilities coupled with significantly low treatment costs when compared to the West, makes medical tourism to Bangalore an ideal proposition.
Healthcare through Telemedicine
The advent of Information technology has revolutionized the field of healthcare - facilitating improvisations in the quality of healthcare delivery.
Telemedicine is using this Information Technology to transmit and transfer real time Patient Information i.e., Clinical and Diagnostics like ECG, X-RAY, CT, MRI and so on from one geographical area to another, for providing ‘distance clinical care’ from a super-specialty center like Manipal Hospital.
The Manipal Hospital Telemedicine Network works upon a ‘server based technology’, with the server situated in Bangalore. All members at the user end and peripheral hospitals will be given a login ID through which all the members will be able to get the telemedicine consultation through this network. These consultations will be provided by doctors from the Manipal Group of Hospitals on a scheduled basis, which will be coordinated by a team of professionals at the Telemedicine Department.

Consultations
Patients’ medical records can be faxed, mailed or electronically transmitted along with applicable films and test results. Our physicians will carefully and patiently review your medical history to determine the best course of treatment and whether it is in the interest of a patient to travel to Bangalore to receive his/her treatment. When necessary, the center will arrange preliminary telephone consultations between patients, their personal physicians and our specialists. We then provide the fastest possible response regarding each patient’s selection to receive treatment at our facilities along with the length of time a patient needs to spend in the hospital.
An update to your physician
The center keeps referring physicians informed about your treatment and care on a periodic basis throughout the treatment period. A complete medical report will be given to you at the time of discharge in the form of a Discharge Summary. When a patient returns home, we regularly confer with the referring physician on the patient’s progress as well as necessary follow-up care.
